REPORTING AN OVERDUE PERSON
It can be intimidating to call 911.
It’s an important step.
What will they ask when I call 911 for an overdue person?
They often ask, “What’s your emergency?”
You will say, “I need to report an overdue person.”
They will ask you questions about the overdue person and their situation.
Give them all the information in the trip plan, then you will answer more questions and leave your contact information.
You may also get a call from Search and Rescue after the mission has been initiated by the sheriff's office.
Be prepared to answer the same questions from multiple people. Please be patient. We are all trying to help.
When will LSAR show up to help?
There is no set time. It will depend on the information provided to the team, weather, resources and personnel available. It will depend on if it is a rescue with a known location, or a search. It may take us hours to get in position. The better the information in the trip plan and shared with LSAR, the quicker we can respond.
If you have new information, or if the person comes out of the field on their own, let us know. Share the good news!
