About LSAR
Lander Search and Rescue (LSAR) is an all-volunteer group that provides search and rescue services in and around Lander, Wyoming. We respond when requested and authorized by the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office. If you need us, you MUST call 911.
Who is Lander Search and Rescue?
We are volunteers who wear many hats and come from diverse backgrounds. We are hikers, hunters, climbers, skiers, boaters, backpackers, planners, offroaders, and anglers. We are teachers, guides, nurses, retirees, and more.
We are volunteers with compassionate families, friends, and employers who allow us to drop everything and put ourselves at risk to help people. We couldn’t do this without them.
What does Lander Search and Rescue do?
We conduct search and rescue operations in Fremont County Wyoming. We help people who are lost or injured in the mountains, the canyons, the desert, and even in town.
We train, as a team and as individuals, to become better at what we do. Whether it’s technical rope skills, patient care, backcountry navigation, search theory, or any number of other skills, our members attend both in house and external training events.
We are supporters of local events. We volunteer our time, our expertise and our equipment to help people recreate safely in our backyard.
We are believers in proactive education and being prepared. We believe in self-rescue when possible, and asking for help when it is not.

The cost of those rescues are reimbursed to Fremont County (not the Support Fund) by the state of Wyoming from donations tied to hunting, fishing, and recreational vehicle licenses. Especially for searches involving air support or mutual aid, costs to the county for an individual search can reach into the tens of thousands of dollars.
While there is no charge for services provided by SAR volunteers, should an air or ground ambulance or other advanced medical care be required, patients can expect to be charged by these companies.
Our team has no control over any charges incurred.
